My Ubuntu Journey by the Numbers
4 books read
7 YouTube videos watched and rewatched
20ish articles read
Countless connections made by my brain, which have only expanded the subject matter, making it difficult to refine
5 - the number of sizes my heart grew as I learned that “I am because We are”
Consuming and reflecting on this topic has been enlightening. Now, I’m ready to refine what I’ve learned and show you how practicing Ubuntu can immediately improve your life.
Ubuntu is a South African philosophy of interconnectedness. Practicing Ubuntu helps you connect with your humanity, forgive yourself and others, and heal our great racial and political divides. It creates hope and connection. Here are some real examples of where Ubuntu made a significant difference:
Archbishop Desmond Tutu created a space for healing in a culture of hate and rage.
Nelson Mandela invited his former jailer to his inauguration.
An unknown church group changed my life forever by building me a rad treehouse!
This is the first piece of Ancestral Wisdom that I’ve decided to write about in my ongoing series. The expansiveness of Ubuntu initially made me hesitant, but I soon realized that any topic can infinitely expand when you’re looking for how it manifests in the world.
While there are already excellent deep-diving books on Ubuntu, I want to bring you stories and insights that leap off the page into your heart and mind—digestible bits of Ancestral Wisdom that you can apply to your life and share with others.
So here is my idea: individual articles each covering a single aspect or concept from Ubuntu and its relevance to modern life. This format allows you to engage deeply with each concept, reflecting on how Ubuntu can enhance your human experience, with less commitment than a book chapter and more depth than a social media blurb.
Here are my ideas so far:
Ubuntu 101
Ubuntu and Your Religion
Ubuntu to Soothe Political Strife
Learning Ubuntu from My Father
How Ubuntu Fits into Your Business
My First Experience with Ubuntu
Ubuntu during COVID
Ubuntu as an Apartheid Peacemaker
Ubuntu and Psylocybin Mushrooms
Ubuntu as Self-Care
The 14 Lessons of “Everyday Ubuntu”
Jane Goodall and Ubuntu
How Ubuntu Can Inspire Racial Healing
And many more...
I believe publishing one article per week is a reasonable goal. Although I'm new as an author, my 15+ years as a Movement & Mindset Coach have taught me the value of consistency.
And the best part? We get to practice interconnectedness and community in the comments section. It wouldn’t be very Ubuntu not to. I’m eager to learn about your experiences and perspectives as we explore this together. Together, we will foster a space of creativity, intentional community, and non-judgment.
I’m thrilled to have you join me on this journey. Let’s get this big wheel rolling!
